Governors don’t know what they don’t know – but should they?

Jane Owens has numerous years of experience as a school governor and Chair of Governors. She is also a National Leader of Governance (NLG).

In this blog, she discusses why we should become governors and offers advice on what a governor should do.

At the core, a governor should want the best for their school and its pupils so she argues that a governor should not be passive and should always be learning more to share with their headteacher.

Jane Owens is a National Leader of Governance (NLG) based in Wirra and is the sole director of Purple Governance. Jane is a highly experienced governor. She is currently chair of trustees of Peninsula MAT and was previously Chair of Governors at that Secondary School. She is also chair of trustees at The Oak Trees MAT. Jane is also chair of governors at a local Special School, The Observatory School. She is also a Member of The Weaver Trust, based in Cheshire West and Chester. Jane has also mentored several chairs of governors across the country.
