Primary school teachers are invited to a special free after-school professional development event in Essex on Thursday 9th May.
Hosted by Nike, the Youth Sport Trust and Discovery Education, The Power of an Active School will help schools to develop an active culture, by sharing strategies and best practice with other teachers.
Today in the UK, only one in five kids get the recommended 30 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity they need each day. The Power of an Active School will help teachers to increase physical activity throughout the school day in a bid to boost pupils’ health and academic achievement.
Led by Alison Sturla from children’s charity The Youth Sport Trust, the event will show teachers how they can build an active school culture and meet the Government’s new Childhood Obesity Plan. Aiming for 30 active minutes in school every day, the event will offer ideas for reducing sedentary behaviour and increasing physical activity levels in classroom lessons.
The Power of an Active School is part of the nationwide Active Kids Do Better Programme, which supports teachers, parents and pupils to make small changes to increase movement and play every day.
Launched in February 2018 by Nike and Discovery Education, Active Kids Do Better now reaches thousands of teachers in hundreds of primary schools across the UK. Some of the schools taking part have received special visits from Nike Olympic athletes, and in July over 3000 parents, teachers and children were invited to attend the Muller Anniversary Games as part of the initiative.
The Power of An Active School take places on Thursday 9th May from 4pm – 5.30pm at ISA House, 5-7 Great Chesterford Court, Great Chesterford, Essex CB10 1PF.
The event is FREE and suitable for all primary based staff.
