Outdoor learning is important for children’s development as it encourages emotional, physical and cognitive growth. When children are learning outdoors, they will often participate in hands-on activities which is a great way for them to develop their critical thinking skills and curiosity, as they explore the world around them.
Learning outdoors also brings classroom topics to life so children aren’t just reading about them but are also physically engaging in the topics, making it more interesting for them.
This could be measurement and geometry, allowing children to measure the height of leaves and the circumference of logs.
Outdoor learning increases the opportunity for physical activity and assists the development of gross motor skills as children have the room to run, jump, and walk around.
Recruitment agency, Spencer Clarke Group, have built a playground for Mereside Primary Academy in Blackpool!
The playground has been created to help the school adhere to the ‘Curiosity Approach’, part of the Early Year Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework.
Through the creation of 5 zones, including an arts and crafts wall, a music wall, a curiosity shed, a Little Learners’ Library and a construction site, Spencer Clarke Group have created a playground that will encourage imaginative play and enable the children to explore their innate curiosity.
Keeping a close focus on sustainability, Spencer Clarke Group have upcycled and responsibly sourced many parts of the playground, which has involved sanding and painting existing sheds and sourcing pre-loved toys.
Built just before the start of the new school term, the playground is now ready to provide the primary and nursery children with hours of fun, learning and development.
