Winter Meditation for Children

As the fun and chaos of term 2 draws to an end, it is a great time to guide children through a meditation to help them relax and mindfully enjoy the winter season.

Many people worry about “doing meditation properly.” However, with a guided meditation, all you need to do is let your mind go along with the story. Encourage the children to simply relax, imagine what they are hearing, and enjoy the story.

Winter Meditation…

Imagine that you are standing in front of a cozy log cabin nestled in the woods, surrounded by tall trees and the sounds of nature. Take a moment to feel the peace and calm that comes from being in this serene setting.

Pause

As you approach the cabin, notice the wooden door with a brass handle. Open the door and step inside. Immediately, you feel the warmth enveloping you. The cabin is heated by a roaring fire in a stone fireplace, and you can feel the heat on your face and hands.

Look around the room and take in the cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Soft chairs and sofas with plump cushions and warm blankets invite you to relax. As you walk across the rug-covered floor, feel the softness of the wool under your feet.

Make your way to the fireplace and feel the warmth of the fire on your skin. Watch as the logs crackle and pop, and breathe in the sweet scent of burning wood. Allow yourself to feel comforted and safe in this warm and cozy place.

Now, walk over to the window and observe the snow falling gently outside. Each snowflake is unique and beautiful as it dances and swirls in the wind. Take a moment to appreciate the wonder and amazement of nature’s beauty.

As the snowflakes land on the ground, covering the earth in a blanket of white, feel a sense of stillness and calm wash over you. The snow is a reminder of the beauty and magic of nature, and you feel grateful to witness it.

As you continue to watch the snow falling, feel your body relaxing. Take a deep breath, allowing the sweet warmth of the cabin to fill your lungs. As you exhale, let a sense of peace and calm spread through your body.

The fire in the fireplace is warm and inviting. As you watch the flames dance and flicker, feel a deep sense of peace and calm wash over you. Allow the warmth of the fire to spread through your body, creating a feeling of safety and security.

Now, pick up a cozy blanket and lie down on a rug near the fire. Feel the softness of the blanket against your skin and the weight of it keeping you warm and cozy. Allow yourself to fully relax and let go of any tension or worries.

Pause

As you watch the fire, notice how the flames change colours. They are red, orange, yellow, and even blue. Take a moment to appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of each flame.

Continue to watch the fire and feel your body becoming more and more relaxed. Feel your muscles loosen and your mind become calm. Allow a sense of peace and tranquility to spread through your entire body.

As you drift off into a dreamlike state, imagine that you are now holding a cup of hot chocolate. The hot chocolate is warm and sweet, bringing you comfort and happiness with each sip.

As you drink the hot chocolate, feel the warmth spreading through your body. Notice the heat of the cup in your hands and the steam rising from the cup. Allow yourself to fully savour the taste and feel the satisfaction and contentment it brings.

With each sip of the hot chocolate, feel the room becoming warmer and cosier. Feel the warmth of the fire and the softness of the blanket. Know that you are surrounded by warmth and comfort, and that you are safe and secure.

Pause

Remember that you can always return to this safe, comfortable, and beautiful winter place whenever you need to find peace and calm.

Take one more sip of the hot chocolate, and when you’re ready, slowly open your eyes, feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
