Government targets 55 areas to help level up education

The government is to create 55 new “Education Investment Areas” according to plans released this morning as part of the education segment of its flagship Levelling Up white paper.

Localities earmarked for investment include Rochdale, Walsall, Sunderland, and the Isle of Wight with these areas being based on weaker school outcomes.

Schools in these areas will receive investment to help improve their settings including targeted DfE retention payments aimed at helping schools keep the best teachers across priority subjects.
