IT’S A BUG’S LIFE! ‘DESIGN A BUG ’ COMPETITION FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS

Schools can win a visit from Naturalist & TV Presenter Nick Baker

Free My Living World Ant & World Worm kits for 250 schools plus STEM learning packs

As British summertime approaches, primary school pupils are being invited to explore the world of living creatures by taking part in a competition to design their own bug.

Ant World Lifestyle

Launched by My Living World and the award-winning website KiddyCharts, the ‘DESIGN A BUG’ competition asks pupils to create their own weird and wonderful insects, inspired by creatures they’ve seen in the school playground or local park.

Open to primary school pupils aged 4-11 years, kids can bring their imaginary insects to life using drawing, painting, 3D art or a computer. From beautiful butterflies to super slimy slugs, pupils can let their creativity and imagination run wild, while teachers can link the activity to learning about animals and habitats.

The winning school will receive a special visit from naturalist Nick Baker, who will lead an exciting assembly for pupils. The well-known TV presenter has hosted some of the UK’s best-loved wildlife programmes, including BBC’s The Really Wild Show and Springwatch Unsprung.

4 runners up will receive an exciting bundle of prizes for themselves and their school from the My Living World range, including a bug photography kit, pocket microscope, flower press, window bird feeder and much more.

To help schools get started with the competition, My Living World and KiddyCharts are offering two free nature study kits plus STEM learning packs to the first 250 schools to enter. Designed by Nick Baker, the Ant World and Worm World kits will help kids to build their very own insect habitats and watch a real bug’s life up close. The free My Living World KS1/KS2 resource packs can be downloaded from KiddyCharts and contain exciting classroom activities to help teachers bring the natural world to life.

Nick Baker comments: “I’m very excited to judge the DESIGN A BUG Competition. Learning about bugs and nature is a great way to bring science to life for kids. I can’t wait to see their amazing designs and to visit the winning school to see their STEM learning in action with My Living World and KiddyCharts!”

The ‘DESIGN A BUG’ competition is open to pupils in all UK primary schools, and children have until 18th June to enter. Teachers can take part by visiting https://playmonster.co.uk/pages/design-a-bug-competition

Part of PlayMonster UK, My Living World creates the very best nature study kits on the market, allowing children to discover the wonders of nature at home and in the classroom.
